Why it exists

Cirlet sets up an AI assistant for independent insurance agencies, starting in Missouri. To do that work we needed an accurate list of the independent agencies in the state, so we built one and published it. It also helps anyone in Missouri who wants to find an agency that works with more than one insurance company.

Being listed doesn't depend on using Cirlet, and using Cirlet doesn't change where or how an agency appears. Cirlet may contact listed agencies to tell them about their listing.

How an agency gets listed

  1. Candidates. We gathered names from the independent-agent locators that insurance companies publish (Liberty Mutual and Safeco, Nationwide, Travelers and others), from licensing records collected by findindependentinsurance.com, and from searches for agencies in each city.
  2. The agency's own website. We opened each agency's website and kept it only if the site says the agency is independent, or names two or more insurance companies it works with, and it writes property and casualty insurance (home, auto, business and the like).
  3. Left out: captive agents who sell for one insurance company (for example State Farm, Shelter, American Family, Farm Bureau, Allstate and Farmers agents), franchise networks with a central service office, national and regional brokers, life-only, health-only and Medicare-only offices, and agencies whose website we couldn't read on the day.
  4. What we record. The address, phone and website shown on the agency's site, the lines of insurance it says it writes, the insurance companies it names, the page we read and the date.

We don't check licenses. Anyone can do that with the state's Find an Insurance Agent/Agency search; see checking an agent's license.

What this site won't do

In Missouri, only licensed insurance producers may sell, solicit or negotiate insurance (RSMo 375.014). This site isn't an insurance agency. So it doesn't rank or rate agencies, recommend insurance companies or coverage, quote or compare prices, or collect visitors' details to pass to agencies. It carries no association logos and isn't endorsed by any association or insurance company.
